I am afraid that his excuses will not wash with the 14,963 people who have been waiting for more than two years for an operation. The numbers of operations are still lower than the pre-pandemic level. Despite John Swinney’s promise of action last year, the number of people waiting in Scotland has gone up and is at a staggering 880,000—a record high. Can the cabinet secretary tell us why it has gone up?
