BAILLIE HONOURS TALENTED PUPILS IN ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITON

Talented young pupils from throughout the area showcased their artistic skills recently, to take part in MSP Jackie Baillie’s Christmas card competition.

The annual festive event attracted entries from primary seven pupils at 18 schools throughout Dumbarton, Alexandria, Helensburgh and Lomond.

Jessica Killen, a pupil at Helensburgh’s St Joseph’s Primary, secured first place in the competition with her cheerful snowman design.

Grace Murdoch of Lennox Primary, Bonhill, won second place, while David Douglas from St Mary’s Primary School, Alexandria and Daniel McLaughlin – a pupil at Dumbarton’s Knoxland Primary – shared third place.

MFCG Holdings sponsored the competition, with retailer Morrisons providing gift vouchers for prize winners.

Winners were presented with their prizes by Jackie during an event at Morrisons’ Dumbarton store on Saturday.

The cards bearing the successful designs will now make their way to 5,500 individuals, dignitaries and organisations – including residents in the Dumbarton constituency aged 68 and over.

Commenting, Jackie Baillie, said: “ I always look forward to my annual Christmas card competition, which is popular with schools and draws entries from young people throughout our constituency.

“I always enjoy seeing the future talent in our community and the reflections of what Christmas means to all the pupils who take part.

“I would also like to congratulate Jessica Killen and the other prize-winners for their successful contributions and to thank their teachers and their parents for all their support to their young people.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Morrisons and MFCG Holdings for their backing and their help in ensuring the competition was a success.”
