MSP Jackie Baillie showed her support for Armed Forces veterans recently, by backing the launch of Poppyscotland’s 2024 appeal.
Jackie joined Presiding Officer Alison Johnson and Scottish Labour Leader Anas Sarwar, in supporting the event at the Scottish Parliament.
Poppyscotland raises funds to support veterans and armed forces personnel in Scotland.
The annual poppy appeal takes place ahead of Remembrance Sunday events, which offer a national reminder of those who have served and sacrificed for the nation.
Armistice Day on November 11th also marks the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany, ending the four year conflict which marked the First World War.
Production of the fundraising poppies has been under way at Lady Haig’s Edinburgh poppy factory since 1926, carried out by disabled ex-service personnel.
Scotland’s unique four petal poppy design is still produced by disabled ex-servicemen and women today.
The poppy appeal is the mainstay of Poppyscotland’s fundraising activities, raising more than £2 million annually, but like other charities, they also facing increasing costs.
Dumbarton MSP Jackie commented: “I was delighted to lend my support to the launch of Poppyscotland’s 2024 appeal.
“The organisation does so much to support forces personnel and provides lifeline services to those who have served, are still serving and their families.
“I am only too happy to back the work of Poppyscotland, in tribute to all those who have given their lives in the service of our country.”
